Getting to know Elfers
Elfers is a census-designated place in Pasco County with 14,573 residents in the 2020 census and about 6,700 housing units. Its old red brick Elfers School was converted into the Elfers CARES Center, which reopened in 2013.
Elfers sits east of New Port Richey along the Pithlachascotee, and many homes here carry a New Port Richey mailing address even though they're outside the city.
What Elfers pool equipment looks like
Elfers is mostly ranch homes from the 1960s through the 1980s on modest lots, with a fair share of pools added in later decades. A lot of those pools started with solar or no heat at all, then got a heat pump in the 2000s or 2010s that's now nearing its end.
Equipment often sits along a side yard, close to the neighbor's fence, which makes heat pump noise and airflow worth thinking about on a replacement.

Free EstimateWhat Elfers pool owners ask for most
- Pool Heater Replacement
Many heat pumps installed 10 to 15 years ago are at end of life.
- Pool Heat Pump Repair
Fan, capacitor and sensor failures on mid-age units are common calls.
- Solar Pool Heater Repair
Some older homes still run roof solar that needs service or removal.
Mind the side-yard airflow
A heat pump crammed against a fence or wall recirculates its own cold air and works harder. If you're replacing, ask about clearances and whether the unit can be turned or moved.
Which office handles Elfers permits
Most of Elfers is unincorporated Pasco, so permits go through Pasco County, but a New Port Richey mailing address can hide a parcel that's actually in the city.
Your parcel decides it: Pasco County Building Construction Services ((727) 847-8126) or City of New Port Richey Building Division ((727) 853-1047 (inspections (727) 853-1048)). Search the address on the Pasco County Property Appraiser site before anyone files.
Most repair visits need no permit at all. Installing a new heater is different: building offices commonly require one to inspect wiring, bonding and any gas piping. You can check any technician’s license on the Florida DBPR license search.

Elfers pool heater questions
Is Elfers in New Port Richey?
No. Elfers is an unincorporated community, though many homes use a New Port Richey mailing address.
Why does my heat pump struggle when it's next to a fence?
It needs open air around it. Tight clearances let it pull in its own cold exhaust.
Is it worth repairing a 12-year-old heat pump?
A cheap part, yes. A compressor or coil, usually not. Get both prices.
