West Pasco and Spring Hill boomed from the 1980s on, and most of those pools now have heaters on their second or third round. Add salt air near the Gulf and the most lightning of any state, and heaters here work hard.

Who permits a new heater
Repairs to an existing heater rarely need a permit. Replacing a heater usually does, mainly so an inspector can check the electrical hookup and the pool bonding, and gas heaters add gas line work. Which office handles it depends on the parcel, not the mailing address: New Port Richey and Port Richey run their own building offices, the rest of Pasco goes to the county, and Spring Hill goes to Hernando County.
Your contractor should pull the permit in their name and include it in the price.

What heater work costs
Repairs and replacements are priced very differently. Angi puts pool heater repair in Tampa at about $165 to $740, while a new gas heater or heat pump installed runs well into the thousands. That gap is why a proper diagnosis comes first: plenty of "dead" heaters only need a sensor, a capacitor or a cleaner filter.
Reference figures, not quotes. Angi, pool repair costs in Tampa: heater repair about $165–$740. HomeAdvisor, pool heater repair cost: typical $164–$780. Swimply, pool heater costs 2026: gas heaters about $1,500–$6,000 installed, heat pumps about $2,000–$8,000. Checked October 2026.

Are you a pool company?
No. Pool Heater Repair Pasco is a referral service. We connect you with an independent, licensed local technician, who gives their own estimate, handles any permit and does the work.
My heat pump runs but the water stays cold. What's wrong?
Common causes are low water flow from a dirty filter or a closed valve, a failed sensor, a refrigerant leak, or air too cold for the heat pump to work well. A technician can read the error code and test the system in one visit.
Should I repair or replace my pool heater?
Repairs on newer heaters usually make sense. When a heater is past about 8 to 10 years, needs a compressor or heat exchanger, or keeps breaking, a replacement often costs less over time. Ask for both prices in writing.
What does pool heater repair cost?
Angi's Tampa guide puts heater repair at about $165 to $740. Replacing a heat pump or gas heater costs thousands, depending on size, type and any electrical or gas work.
Is the estimate free?
Yes. The estimate is free and there's no obligation to hire the technician.
